By taking a number of samples from each variety it was hoped that variations due to ratoon, age, soil, rainfall, etc. would be smoothed out. The results indicated that there is a definite varietal trend but considerable fluctuations occurred within each variety. N:Co.310 showed an outstandingly high starch content while a new variety N:Co.334 was extremely low by comparison.
